Is the pen in your fridge real?
Seven signs of a fake Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound, from the FDA's own alerts. Two minutes.
Read the first three checks first
The seven checks.
Three here. All seven in the PDF, which the sends you.
- 1
Look at where “EXP/LOT” is printed on the pen label.
Real pen: EXP/LOT sits above the date and lot number. The fakes the FDA found in December 2025: to the left. The FDA says do not use one like that.
FDA alert, 5 December 2025.
- 2
Compare the lot and serial number with the FDA's list.
The FDA has named counterfeit Ozempic three times:
- December 2023: lot NAR0074, serial number 430834149057.
- April 2025: lot PAR0362, serial numbers that start 51746517.
- December 2025: lot PAR1229. This one is also a real lot number, so the EXP/LOT check above decides it.
FDA, “FDA warns consumers not to use counterfeit Ozempic”, alerts of 21 December 2023, 14 April 2025 and 5 December 2025.
- 3
Set a dose and watch the pen.
A real Ozempic pen does not get longer when you set the dose. The fake the maker described in 2023 did. The dial shows only the pen's own strengths: 0.25 and 0.5, or 1, or 2.
Novo Nordisk statement, 16 June 2023, reported by Pharmacy Times.
- 4
Read the box.
Four things the maker says a fake carton gets wrong, from the spelling to the tamper strip.
- 5
Do not trust the needles.
What the FDA's lab found about the needles packed with the 2023 fakes.
- 6
A vial is a different question.
Which of the four drugs is ever sold in a vial, from their own labels, and what a lab found in one vial.
- 7
A lab certificate proves someone made a certificate.
How one seller built its certificates, as prosecutors told a court.
What the fakes have held.
One vial bought online as 99 percent pure semaglutide, drawn as 100 beads. The lab's best reading of three was 14 percent. Check 6 in the PDF says why a vial is a different question from a pen.
- 14 of 100 semaglutide
- 86 of 100 not semaglutide
Get all seven.
- The three lot numbers the FDA has named as fake.
- The dial test, the box test and the needle test.
- What the fakes have held: insulin, 14 percent of the label, a vial that put someone in hospital.
The FDA named a fake lot three times in two years. The next one will not make the news in time. We send one email when it happens, with the document. Nothing else.

Where this page says what to look for, it repeats the FDA's and the maker's own guidance as theirs. We name no seller and give no advice of our own. Last checked 21 October 2026.
