Also known as nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide.

Short answer

As of October 2026, injectable NAD+ is not approved by the FDA and has no EMA marketing authorisation. It is sold only as a compounded product. The one human study looked back at the records of 6 people given NAD+ by IV, and no randomized trial has been completed. FDA records show a recall for wrong potency in 2022 and a warning letter about endotoxin controls in 2026, so a vial can differ from its label in ways you cannot see.

What is injectable NAD+?

NAD+ is a molecule that every human cell needs for energy and DNA repair, and its levels fall with age. That decline is why injectable NAD+ is marketed with anti-aging and energy claims. Compounding pharmacies prepare it from a bulk chemical, so it has not gone through the FDA trials required of an approved drug.

Does injectable NAD+ work?

Nobody knows. No randomized controlled trial has been completed, and the only human data are one small look-back review of 6 people given NAD+.

What we found. 0 completed randomized trials. 1 small look-back study of 6 people's records on NAD+ (14 in all), which does not count because it was not randomized. 1 systematic review of NAD-boosting approaches. 1 recall and 1 FDA warning letter, moved to the legal section.

How we count a trial

Is injectable NAD+ safe?

In the one human study, the 6 people given NAD+ had stomach symptoms, a faster heart rate and chest pressure. That study covered a handful of records, and no randomized trial has established safety. FDA records also show a recall of compounded NAD+ for wrong potency and a warning letter about endotoxin controls. Those are faults in the product, which is where the vial section starts.

What is in a vial sold as injectable NAD+?

Injectable NAD+ reaches people as a compounded product, prepared by compounding pharmacies from a bulk chemical. FDA records show a recall of it for potency outside its specification, and a warning letter about controls for bacterial endotoxin, a contamination tied to infection risk. A certificate of analysis counts only if it names your lot number, a lab with no stake in the result, and the method used. Purity and identity are separate tests.

Three questions to ask the seller:

  1. Which lot number is this certificate for?
  2. Who ran the test, and are they independent of you?
  3. Does the report confirm identity by mass spectrometry, or purity alone?

What don't we know?

  • Whether it does anything for aging or energy. No randomized trial has been completed.
  • Whether it is safe. The only human data are the records of 6 people given NAD+.
  • Whether the symptoms seen in that small study would show up in a larger group.
  • What is in any given vial. FDA records show a recall for wrong potency and a warning letter about endotoxin controls.

The other side

A personal result is real to the person who had it. It cannot separate the compound from the vial, or from the lift that comes with expecting to feel better.

What would change this record?

  • A registered, randomized, placebo-controlled human trial of injectable NAD+, large enough to give an answer.

Change log

  • The look-back study gave NAD+ to 6 people (8 others got nicotinamide riboside), and its symptoms are now that group's. The 2026 FDA item is a warning letter about endotoxin controls, not a recall.
  • Record checked. No change logged yet.

More questions about injectable NAD+

Is injectable NAD+ approved by the FDA?

No. Injectable NAD+ is not an FDA-approved drug, and it has no EMA marketing authorisation. It is sold only as a compounded product.

Has injectable NAD+ been tested in people?

Only in one small study. It looked back at the records of 6 people given NAD+ by IV (8 others got a related compound) and was published in 2026. No randomized controlled trial has been completed.

Has injectable NAD+ been recalled?

Yes. The FDA recorded a recall of compounded NAD+ in 2022 for potency outside its specification. In January 2026 it sent a compounder a warning letter about endotoxin (bacterial toxin) controls.

Does injectable NAD+ have side effects?

In the one human study, the 6 people given NAD+ had stomach symptoms, a faster heart rate and chest pressure. No randomized trial has established its safety.

Is injectable NAD+ banned in sport?

It is not named on WADA's list. That is not clearance.
